Lightbulb The 1g Project

Ok, here's the idea.
The Concept: I'm going to try to make a list of all the people in GW who will give me one gold piece. I'll stand in a particular district, ask the general public to all give me 1g, and then write down everybody's name in my handy-dandy notebook .

The Rules: I've decided that I won't be going into cities to ask, as I'll probably not be heard over "WTSWTSTWTS....", and I'll underline the name of the first person to give 1g in each district. Also, anyone who flames me - calls me a money grubber/scammer/a$$hole/whatever you people use these days - they get their name on the Mean List! .

The Point: Well, the original idea was just to get me rich . But I realised we could have a "most generous district" award or something like that. The possibilities are endless!

So what do you guys think? Your opinions are valued.

Edit: By the way, could people keep posting replies so this post stays at least somewhere near the top? It'd be a shame to have it deleted.

Well I know when I see someone asking for one of something that I have more than one of, I usually hand it over (and I know a couple of other people who'd do the same).

So I'm willing to bet you'll be reasonably successful ;P

People are a bit wary of someone asking for one gold piece. Make it something like 31 gold pieces and one wood plank. You'll have better luck.

What's the point, exactly. So you can have a list of people who gave you 1g after you posted on a forum that you're trying to get money from strangers?

If you're tried to do this as some sort of social experiment, it failed on the basis that you posted about it before you had your results. Your idea would have been more meaningful if you had something to present after you conducted a "blind" experiment.

Even if it was just to say "... but I mainly got ignored" is a reasonable response, but I'm not sure how good your sample was after less than 30 minutes of trying. Ultimately it was probably a good idea that you just let it go for any number of reasons.

This is a brilliant Idea, It would take over an hour to get 50 gold. Where as you could just simply run to a chest outside of an explorable area in 10 minutes and get 50 gold from a chest.

it sounded like a good idea, but of the many people in each district, its only a select few who actually talk rather than sit afk, or dance, or try to sell and shit

How did it sound like a good idea? Even if everyone in a district was willing it would take about a minute to get the gold from each person, especially if you wrote their names down. 60 minutes = 1 hour

It seems as if you didn't read the post. He was looking to award a most generous district, not get rich quick by collectiong one gold.

The reason most people aren't giving is probably because 1 gold seems like a joke. If i saw someone saying that I would just disregard it for a joke. A larger number like 50 or 100 gold would make me more inclined to donate.

StandardAI, accepting a trade and writing down a name doesn't take a minute. Either way you are missing the point, he's not trying to get rich. That was his original idea, as he said in the post, but that's not his current idea.

I like the idea of the GW-comunity donating money. But what's the point of doing that when it has no meaning at all?
Virtual money, so what?
Real money should get interesting. Send 1 EUR to some PayPal account, make it public, have people vote on this forum or some extra website, what to do with the money.
Charity only!
That way the comunity of GW could show the world, that we're not a bunch of nerds with only role-playing on their mind.

It is true that the 1g may have been ignored. As for the point, basically I just have nothing to do at the moment. But I really don't have the attention span to keep doing this for very long, especially when so few people participate.

How about all the people that would be trying to give him 1 gp but couldn't someone else was doing it at the same time? People don't like having to wait when they are giving away stuff for free.

You sure you didn't sell 5 Platinum for the price of 6 gold?
